2009: Marathon Man raises a grand
Many thanks (and congratulations) to a good friend of the
Charity - Sam - who raised funds for Girl Child by running the Berlin
marathon. A great acheivement and he raised £1,000 for the
charity.

2009: New Chairs for Nyamphande
We've helped out Nyamphande with a set of locally-made
wooden chairs for the nursery class. And we bought windows, doors
and locks too - all those essential things needed for a classroom!

2009: U2 Fundraising Night in Basingstoke
A date for all your diaries as Bono comes to town to raise money
for Girl Child (and MSF). Ok, so it might not be the real U2 but
we're told they are just as good. Come along to the Irish Centre
in Basingstoke on Saturday 14th March. Contact us for more details.

2009: Start of the new Training Programme
It's been a while to get the vocational training and further
education programme up and running but we now have our first young
woman on the scheme. Angela will be studying Catering & Hotel
Management at UNZA from this month, and we are supporting her first
year's tuition fees.

2008: 8 new girls for 2009
We are proud to announce that we will be more than doubling our girl
sponsorship programme with a further 8 young girls from Every Children's
Hope being sponsored at GOCA. This is a great acheivement for the
charity.

June
2008: New classroom and equipment
As part of our ongoing commitment to Nyamphande we agreed
to fund the construction of a new roof for the nursery building.
We also donated 12 Lifeline wind-up radios and lanterns so teachers
could use the education lessons produced for national radio and
the pupils could do homework at night without the need for mains
electricity (which doesn't exist at Nyamphande)

2008: New books for Nyamphande
We're delighted to announce that we have just donated £1,500
worth of new educational books to Nyamphande Community School. The
donation includes all of the Zambian Grade 1 curriculum and early
years teaching, as well as additional reading and teacher materials.

2008: Trustee raises £1,400 for Girl Child
A great big thank you to one of our trustees, Oliver Rowson, for
raising well over a grand for Girl Child. And for taking the flak
from his workmates by dressing up on his company's dress down day.

2008: Donate online with our new fundraising page
We've now set up a brand
new online donation page with charity website,
My Charity Page. We'll now be able to receive any donations through
the website and promote any events we have. Best of all, we get
the Gift Aid as well as the donation.

2008: Legacy
money to fund community school
We were recently given a large four-figure legacy donation through
an extremely kind friend of GirlChild. The donation will go a long
way to supporting the work we do, especially with the Nyamphande
Community school we have now started working with.

2008: Seven new girls start at GOCA
A new year and a new start for seven young girls - many of
whom are orphans - who we have agreed to sponsor at the GOCA school
in Lusaka. All seven girls are currently living at My Father's House
project in Kalingalinga. You can read more about each girl in 'The
Girls' section.
