Oct 2009: Marathon Man raises a grand
Many thanks (and congratulations) to a good friend of the Charity - Sam - who raised funds for Girl Child by running the Berlin marathon. A great acheivement and he raised £1,000 for the charity.

Sept 2009: New Chairs for Nyamphande
We've helped out Nyamphande with a set of locally-made wooden chairs for the nursery class. And we bought windows, doors and locks too - all those essential things needed for a classroom!

Mar 2009: U2 Fundraising Night in Basingstoke
A date for all your diaries as Bono comes to town to raise money for Girl Child (and MSF). Ok, so it might not be the real U2 but we're told they are just as good. Come along to the Irish Centre in Basingstoke on Saturday 14th March. Contact us for more details.

Jan 2009: Start of the new Training Programme
It's been a while to get the vocational training and further education programme up and running but we now have our first young woman on the scheme. Angela will be studying Catering & Hotel Management at UNZA from this month, and we are supporting her first year's tuition fees.

Nov 2008: 8 new girls for 2009
We are proud to announce that we will be more than doubling our girl sponsorship programme with a further 8 young girls from Every Children's Hope being sponsored at GOCA. This is a great acheivement for the charity.

June 2008: New classroom and equipment
As part of our ongoing commitment to Nyamphande we agreed to fund the construction of a new roof for the nursery building. We also donated 12 Lifeline wind-up radios and lanterns so teachers could use the education lessons produced for national radio and the pupils could do homework at night without the need for mains electricity (which doesn't exist at Nyamphande)

Mar 2008: New books for Nyamphande
We're delighted to announce that we have just donated £1,500 worth of new educational books to Nyamphande Community School. The donation includes all of the Zambian Grade 1 curriculum and early years teaching, as well as additional reading and teacher materials.

Mar 2008: Trustee raises £1,400 for Girl Child
A great big thank you to one of our trustees, Oliver Rowson, for raising well over a grand for Girl Child. And for taking the flak from his workmates by dressing up on his company's dress down day.

Feb 2008: Donate online with our new fundraising page
We've now set up a brand new online donation page with charity website, My Charity Page. We'll now be able to receive any donations through the website and promote any events we have. Best of all, we get the Gift Aid as well as the donation.

Feb 2008: Legacy money to fund community school
We were recently given a large four-figure legacy donation through an extremely kind friend of GirlChild. The donation will go a long way to supporting the work we do, especially with the Nyamphande Community school we have now started working with.

Jan 2008: Seven new girls start at GOCA
A new year and a new start for seven young girls - many of whom are orphans - who we have agreed to sponsor at the GOCA school in Lusaka. All seven girls are currently living at My Father's House project in Kalingalinga. You can read more about each girl in 'The Girls' section.
