> the training programme

Following our return trip to Zambia in 2007, the Trustees decided to start up a new scheme aimed at supporting eligible young women who have completed their secondary education and want to go on to further education or training. Many young people struggle to find a job once they finish their education, and the opportunity to do some vocational training can make a big difference.

We are aiming to start this programme in 2009 with one or two girls.

Angela

We are now proud to announce that we have our first young woman enrolled in the programme. Angela is 18 years old and is one of the original girls from the Anglican Children's Project, where Alice worked as a VSO volunteer back in 2003-2005. She wanted to study on the three year University of Zambia catering course which is a very prestigious course. You must have completed this course in order to work in any of the top Lusaka hotels and you need high grades to be accepted. We agreed to support Angela as the first young woman on our vocational training and further education programme.

We are hopeful that we will also sponsor one more young woman this year but we are still attempting to finalise details.
